Lessons from an Oyester
There once was an oyster
Who found that some sand
Had got into his shell.
It was only a grain,
but it gave him great pain.
For oysters have feelings
Although they're so plain.
Now, did he berate
the harsh workings of fate
That had brought him
To such a deplorable state?
Did he curse at the government,
Cry for election,
And claim that the sea should
Have given him protection?
'No,' he said to himself
As he lay on a shell,
Since I cannot remove it,
I shall try to improve it.
Now the years have rolled around,
As the years always do,
And he came to his ultimate
Destiny stew.
And the small grain of sand
That had bothered him so
Was a beautiful pearl
All richly aglow.
Now the tale has a moral,
for isn't it grand
What an oyster can do
With a morsel of sand?
What couldn't we do
If we'd only begin
With some of the things
That get under our skin.
From here & there
We may have grown in knowledge and intelligence, but not necessarily in wisdom and virtue, which is more essential for the development of a fuller aware being.

Intellect is like a mother, the mind is like a child innocently curious though prankful and mischievous. Use mother craft to sooth and lullaby the mind which is child like.

Believing is a fine thing, but placing those beliefs into execution is a test of strength. Many are those who talk like the roar of the sea, but their lives are shallow and stagnant, like the rotting marshes. Many are those, who lift their heads above the mountain tops, but their spirits remain dormant in obscurity of the caverns.

Man cannot uplift himself spiritually. Me must be awakened from the dream of negligence by one who is already awake.

The human intellect (Aql) is a microcosmic reflection of the universal intellect(Aql Kulli) When man attains proper use of his own intellect, he is able to move from the level of his own individual intellect to swim in the ocean of of universal (macrocosmic) intellect. Through going inwards (contemplation) he is conveyed outwards to dizzying heights. Excerpt from Article by Irshaad Husain.

Anger is positive in some respect hostility is not.

It is not the event but how you react to an event, that determines your attitude.

Sharing pain creates compassion.
